KIA Sorento Service Repair Manual, Wiring Diagrams

The car is based on the Hyundai Santa Fe platform, but without a massive frame in the design. Despite this, the car pleasantly surprises with driving performance in urban and rough terrain.

Kia Sorento 2012 received the prefix XM in the name. The load-bearing body of the machine with front and rear subframes is made of high-strength steel grades that are resistant to serious damage.

The German stylist Peter Schreyer worked on the appearance of the 5-door station wagon. His Schreyer Line concept was used in the design of all subsequent Kia models.

The crossover can carry 7 people when installing 3 rows of seats, but because of this, the trunk volume will decrease from 500 to 268 liters. If you remove the rear sofa, then the capacity of the hold will increase by 4 times. The spare wheel is located below the bottom of the cargo compartment.

After restyling in 2012, it became spacious inside the 5-seater Kia. Interior decoration is made of high quality materials in European style. The main console, doors and steering wheel are covered in black plastic with silver accents. Depending on the equipment, the seat upholstery is made of dark fabric or leather.

On the dashboard, each of the dials is enclosed in a separate cylindrical well with a chrome rim and bright orange backlight. In the center of the console is located:

  • modern audio system;
  • digital clock;
  • color display (6.5-8″);
  • climate control unit.

The 2012 Kia Sorento includes many options that are responsible for the comfort and safety of passengers. The basic and additional equipment of the car includes:

  • keyless access;
  • air conditioner;
  • heated front seats;
  • multimedia with 6-10 speakers;
  • electronic distributor of brakes and ABS;
  • ESC stabilization system;
  • tire pressure monitoring module.

The interior of the car is very roomy with comfortable seats. Their position can be adjusted in different directions. The upper back cushions are flat without lateral support. The second row of seats is equipped with a central armrest and a climate deflector. The third row of the sofa is comfortable only for people of small stature.

Engine and fuel consumption

After the global tuning of 2012, the Kia Sorento began to be equipped with a new power plant.

The weakest in strength is the 16-valve GDi gasoline engine with a volume of 2.4 liters and a power of 175 hp. It has a gas distribution system and direct injection. The torque is 225 Nm and the maximum compression ratio is 10:1. Supports front and rear wheel drive (2WD, 4WD). From standstill to 100 km / h accelerates in 10.4-11.6 seconds (depending on the type of transmission).

The second version of the power plant is a 2.2-liter CRDi turbodiesel engine with 197 hp. Its performance is optimized with a variable geometry turbocharger and balancer shaft. Direct injection of fuel takes place under high pressure using Common Rail technology. Torque strength — 436 Nm, compression ratio — 16: 1. Depending on the gearbox, acceleration to “hundreds” with a turbodiesel takes 9.6-9.8 seconds.

Transmission

«Kia Sorento» 2012 is available for sale with a 6-speed «mechanics» and automatic transmission. Unlike the previous generation, the transmission of the new crossover SUV has been seriously upgraded. Now the connection of the rear wheels in the 4WD drive when slipping in 0.15 seconds, which improves the car’s patency on snowy and sandy tracks.

With the help of special sensors, the on-board computer receives data on the speed of rotation of the wheels and the angle of the steering wheel. It then automatically redistributes torque between front and rear wheel drive for maximum directional stability in a variety of off-road conditions.

Kia Sorento manuals

When the midsize Kia Sorento first appeared, it featured a traditional, trucklike body-on-frame design that provided a level of ruggedness not typically found on crossover SUVs. Blessed with above-average off-roading and towing abilities, the V6-powered first-generation Sorento won our respect for its practical nature. It also boasted impressive value, offering the dimensions of a midsize SUV at a compact-crossover price point. But the original Sorento was clearly out of sync with the crossover craze. Most consumers want carlike unibody construction in their SUVs these days, so Kia decided to provide precisely that with its second- and third-generation Sorento models. These newer Sorentos are one of the best picks available for a small or midsize crossover SUV thanks to their choice of four-cylinder or V6 power, roomy interiors, available third-row seat and Kia’s extensive warranty package.

Second Generation XM (2011-2023)

A redesigned crossover (car-based) Sorento (codename XMA) was launched in South Korea in 2009. It is Kia’s first model to be manufactured in the United States, in KIA’s new US$1 billion West Point, Georgia, factory (which also builds the sister vehicle to the Sorento, the Hyundai Santa Fe). The Sorento uses Kia’s new corporate grille, known as the Tiger Nose, as designed by Kia’s design .

First generation BL (2003–2009)

The Kia Sorento is a mid-size SUV, launched in 2003. Sales of the Sorento have been strong, becoming Kia’s best-selling model in the United States. It was released at the same time as the Mitsubishi Outlander. The first generation Kia Sorento was a traditional truck-based (body-on-frame) SUV. It was very capable off-road, with an automatic four-wheel drive system featuring low range gearing.

ServicingManuals.com

This website is a free online resource that stores PDF service manuals for popular cars.

Using a community of helpers we source the documents and index them into manufacturers and models so you can easily find the right one.

Inside of a typical service manual, you will find instructions on the maintenance, fitting and replacement of components inside a car.

You may find these documents referred to under different names such as repair manuals, workshop manuals and even factory manuals.

If you have a hard-to-find service manual then you can submit it for others to find here.

This site is part of the GimmeManuals.com community driven group of websites.

At GimmeManuals we collect popular and hard to find owner’s manuals and then archive them in an easy-to-search way.

What is a Service Manual?

These service manuals that you can find the PDFs for on this site are extremely useful for mechanics.

You may also find these manuals useful if you DIY your car maintenance to avoid expensive repair costs.

Within the manuals, you typically find exploded diagrams of the parts in a car along with parts numbers.

Many people look for the wiring diagrams and the fuse information within these working manuals too in order to fix electrical problems that may have appeared.

As the powerplant of a car can be complicated you can also find a section called an “engine diagram” that shows you how to service, repair and dismantle an engine unit.
