All Kia Vehicles In U.S. With AWD In 2023
A family sedan is a nice vehicle choice, but it’s a little limited if you want to hit the road less traveled. This is where an AWD vehicle can get the job done.
That said, it’s not just off-road enthusiasts that appreciate a vehicle with all wheel drive, as it’s also a good option for people who live in parts of the country where the weather doesn’t always “co-operate”.
Kia has several AWD models ready to go, so let’s take a closer look at what’s available.

Kia SUV models with all-wheel-drive in 2023
There are 4 different Kia SUVs on sale in the United States that offer all-wheel-drive. Let’s have a look at each of them.
1. 2023 Kia Sorento AWD
This is a great looking midsize SUV that hides a lot of power inside a pretty package.
The Sorento comes with optional all-wheel-drive. The “Dynamax” AWD system uses several strategically placed electronic sensors to ensure that the right amount of power is delivered to each of the wheels on the Sorento.
This AWD system works in conjunction with Torque Vectoring Cornering Control (TVCC), which also employs sensors to help keep the vehicle stable and prevent understeer, amongst other things.
2. 2023 Kia Sportage AWD
Make no mistake about it, the Sorento is a big vehicle that might be more than some people want to handle. The new Kia Sportage, on the other hand, is smaller in size, and now comes available with the same AWD system as its bigger brother.
There is plenty of space and power to be found in the Kia Sportage SUV, making it a crossover vehicle that is perfect for everyday use, as well as for weekend adventures in the country.
3. 2023 Kia Telluride AWD
Kia Telluride is a new kid on the block. The newly-launched large SUV went on sale in U.S. with a choice of front wheel drive and all-wheel-drive. The AWD on Kia Telluride is optional.
4. 2023 Kia Seltos AWD
The latest addition to the Kia lineup in the United States is the Seltos sub-compact SUV. Positioned below the Sportage SUV, the Seltos comes standard with AWD system.
Kia sedans with all-wheel-drive in 2023
Two Kia sedans come available with all-wheel-drive in the US-market. Those are the Stinger sports sedan and newly-launched Kia K5.
5. Kia Stinger AWD
The Stinger sports sedan is the sportiest Kia model to offer AWD system in the United States. It has joined the carmaker’s range in the mid of 2018 and comes standard with rear-wheel-drive, while all-wheel-drive is optional!
6. Kia K5 AWD
Just recently released Kia K5 comes available with AWD! This eye-catching midsize sedan has repalced the popular Optima 4-door sedan and offers optional all-wheel-drive system in the US-market.
Future Kia vehicles with all-wheel-drive
Kia have not officially announced whether they will add any more vehicles with all-wheel-drive models in the future, but the Trailster concept may be a sign of what’s to come.
This concept car is a different take on the incredibly popular Soul crossover, but there are no production plans just yet.
Kia Motors have done a fantastic job of listening to the needs of the consumer over the years, so don’t be surprised to see more Kia AWD powertrain options in the future.
Questions & Answers
1. Is there a Kia Carnival AWD?
The latest generation of the Kia Carnival minivan is not offered with all-wheel-drive system. Though, latest rumors suggest that sometime in the near future, the Carnival could be offered with AWD.
2. Does Kia Stonic offer AWD?
Kia Stonic AWD isn’t available either! This is a “Europe-exclusive” small crossover, which is built on the same platform as the Rio sub-compact car. That model only supports front wheel drive!
3. Kia Soul AWD available in U.S.?
No. Unfortunately, Kia Soul does not offer all-wheel-drive. There is a variant called the Soul X-Line on sale in US. That model looks more rugged on the outside, but unfortunately does not offer all-wheel-drive!
If you are in the market for a “Soul-sized” SUV or crossover with AWD, you’d better look at the Kia Seltos SUV with all-wheel-drive system, which has just been launched in the United States.
Kia Sorento: All wheel drive (AWD)
Engine power can be delivered to all front and rear wheels for maximum traction. AWD is useful when extra traction is required on roads, such as, when driving on slippery, muddy, wet, or snow-covered roads. These vehicles are not designed for challenging off-road use. Occasional off-road use such as established unpaved roads and trails are OK. It is always important when traveling off highway that the driver carefully reduces the speed to a level that does not exceed the safe operating speed for those conditions.
In general, off-road conditions provide less traction and braking effectiveness than normal road conditions. The driver must be especially alert to avoid driving on slopes which tilt the vehicle to either side.
These factors must be carefully considered when driving off-road.
Keeping the vehicle in contact with the driving surface and under control in these conditions is always the driver’s responsibility for the safety of him/herself and his / her passengers.
WARNING — Off road driving
This vehicle is designed primarily for on road use although it can operate effectively off road. However, it was not designed to drive in challenging off-road conditions. Driving in conditions that exceed the vehicle’s intended design or the driver’s experience level may result in severe injury or death.
If the AWD system warning light ( ) illuminates, this indicates that
there is a malfunction in the AWD system. If this occurs, have your vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.
Tight corner brake effect
CAUTION — AWD When turning sharply on a paved road at low speed while in four-wheel drive, steering control will be difficult.
Tight corner brake effect is a unique characteristic of four-wheel drive vehicles caused by the difference in tire rotation at the four wheels and the zero-degree alignment of the front wheels and suspension.
Sharp turns at low speeds should be carried out with caution.
All Wheel Drive (AWD) transfer mode selection
- When driving on normal roads, deactivate the AWD LOCK mode by pushing the AWD LOCK button (the indicator light goes off). Driving on normal roads with AWD LOCK mode (especially, when cornering) may cause mechanical noise or vibration. The noise and vibration will disappear when the AWD LOCK mode is deactivated. Some parts of the power train may be damaged by prolonged driving with the noise and vibration.
- When the AWD LOCK mode is deactivated, a shock may be felt as the drive power is delivered entirely to the front wheels. This shock is not a mechanical failure.
- For safe All-wheel drive operation
Good driving practices
Never move the gear shift lever from P (Park) to any other position with the accelerator pedal depressed. Never move the gear shift lever into P (Park) when the vehicle is in motion. Be sure .
For safe All-wheel drive operation
WARNING — Four-wheel driving The conditions of on-road or off-road that demand fourwheel drive mean all functions of your vehicle are exposed to extreme stress than under normal road conditions. Sl .

Sportage II (2005 — 2010) (Edit)
In AUTO mode vehicle operates similar to the conventional 2WD vehicles under normal operating conditions. However, if the system determines that there is a need for the 4WD mode, the engine’s driving power is distributed to all four wheels automatically without driver intervention.
When «4WD LOCK» button causes «central differential lock» and should not be used on normal roads.
This mode automatically begins to deactivate at speed above 30 km/h (19 mph) and is shifted to 4WD AUTO mode at speed above 40 km/h (25 mph). If the vehicle decelerates to speeds below 30 km/h (19 mph), however, the transfer mode is shifted into 4WD LOCK mode again.
